The importance of being the L.A. Phil

The most important orchestra in America just ended its season. The last four words of that sentence are mine. EXCLUSIVE: Paulo Avelino on filming Goyong: ‘I’m very excited and nervous’

After it was first announced two years ago that he would be headlining the movie Goyong, Paulo Avelino said he is happy to finally start shooting the Gregorio Del Pilar biopic this month.

“Actually we’ve been preparing for this for quite a long time so I’m very excited and kinda nervous that we’re shooting it now and that we’ve finally started. I think everything is well planned and studied. All the people from production pretty much know what the film is about and what we want to achieve and what we want to show the people,” he shared during the Vitress Kolours Saladbox event held last June 3 in Headway Vera Salon in Sta. Mesa.

Paulo revealed he can relate to the brave young Filipino general, who died in battle at the age of 24.

“The part of him that I could relate to is he was carrying a very big burden at a very young age and I kind of could relate to that in a lot of ways. I also learned some things about him that surprised me. That he was once hit by a bullet in the head one time. He was grazed by a bullet during one of his campaigns,” he told PUSH.

When some netizens commented online saying he is too “pogi” to play the role, Paulo said he is not bothered because it is a non-issue.

“Well, hindi naman too pogi siguro. No it’s not because Gregorio Del Pilar was actually known to be a good looking person and yun nga yung joke about him na may girlfriend siya in every town na nadadaanan niya. There are actually letters na marami ata talaga siyang naging girls,” he remarked.

When asked if he had the same kind of girl problems as his character, Paulo denied the comparison. “Hindi naman. I’m a very loyal person (laugh),” he added.

The Goyong star is also reunited with Heneral Luna director Jerrold Tarrog in the project.

“It’s always a treat to work with direk Jerrold Tarog. This guy is just some crazy person who likes making films and surprising everyone with what he has in store and what he wants to show and he’s a very creative and artistic person. Maybe a unique thing about direk Jerrold is he actually gives his actors a lot of freedom to work around,” he shared.

Pahiramin niya daw ako ng dalawang libo so sinama niya ako dyan. ‘Yun pala, ito lang gagawin sa’kin. Dahil sa dalawang libo, itong sinapit ko.

“Sinong tutulong eh dalawang libo nga, walang tumutulong sa’kin. Ito pa kaya, di ba niya naisip ‘yun? Kaya wala, talagang wala kang kapag-asa pag-asa talaga.

RK Bagatsing on making it in showbiz: ‘Pinangarap ko rin talaga siya’

Wild Flower is just his second show on ABS-CBN but the ascent of RK Bagatsing’s career is already remarkable. His portrayal of the antagonist Arnaldo Ardiente-Torillo has been receiving rave reviews and the soap itself has been amassing high ratings.

“Overwhelmed ako sa success ng Wild Flower kasi unang-una this is only my second show with ABS-CBN, and when I got one of the lead roles in Wild Flower sobrang tuwa ko and to be around these seasoned actors sobrang hands down ako, ang daming natutunan sa kanila and all so to sum it all up surreal ‘yung pakiramdam. Whenever I am outside, people call me Mr. Mayor ngayon, it’s not that I am complaining, pero ngayon dahil sa success ng show people really recognize you don sa character mo so I am so happy” he said in an interview with PUSH.

RK narrated how he faced many setbacks when he was still trying to set foot in the industry. He shared he auditioned for a lot of commercials, movies and shows but encountered numerous rejections. He said his ultimate dream back then was to make it in the entertainment industry. He is thankful that his dream has come true now.

“Nong una wala talaga akong makuha as in like ‘yung ratio ko sa commercial I have 10 commercials to a thousand auditions. Sa movies I got my first break back in 2012 after that bilang pa rin sa kamay ko ‘yung nakuha ako. Pero ever since then I was just really hoping to get a big break. I think a lot of actors do so tuloy-tuloy lang audition. Yeah, pinangarap ko rin talaga siya, like other actors vini-visualize nila ‘yung gustong mangyari,” he said.

Now on its’ book 2, Wild Flower’s story is about to get intense according to RK. He relayed that the twists and the turns of the story are about to get intense.

“I guess that’s also one of the reasons why nanonood ‘yung mga tao, not the action alone but ‘yung verbal, ‘yung mga actor, ‘yung mga character, mas marami pang intelligent wars, utakan, so di lang barilan, di lang sampalan, they outwit each other, ‘yun ang aabanagan nila,” he stated.

EXCLUSIVE: Ejay Falcon clarifies he has no intention to switch networks

“I just finished third year and I’m planning to take a business management course. “Yes, this school year may plano po ako mag-aral. Education is really important. I stopped, I’m now in grade 8. I don’t know what year in high school I’m gonna take an exam para mag- jump na ako to grade 12,” ayon sa singer-actor.
