AMATEUR boxer Flint Jara of Bago City was found positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) after taking a rapid antibody test last Friday.
Jara, however, has yet to receive the result of the reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) confirmatory test.
Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines (ABAP) Executive Director Ed Picson was surprised as to why Jara tested positive, saying that he was staying most of the time in the gym and didn’t go anywhere else except in a “sari-sari” store near it.
“Nagtataka mga coaches hindi naman naglalabas ‘yan at sa sari-sari store lang siya nagpupunta para bumili ng toothpaste at soap and he’s wearing mask,” Picson revealed during the Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum virtual news conference on Tuesday.
“But we have to see the result first of the swab test,” he said.
ABAP President Ricky Vargas said he was praying for Jara’s negative result in the swab test.
Jara is part of the junior and youth elite boxing team. He is presently quarantined at the Sto. Niño Hospital in Baguio City.
