MANILA, Philippines — Three congressmen, who were earlier contenders for the post of House Speaker, are expected to nominate Taguig. Rep Alan Peter Cayetano for the lower chamber’s top post.
“Tatlo po ang napagusapan kagabi na magnonominate kay Speaker Alan. Si (Davao City Rep. Paolo) Pulong (Duterte) si (Leyte Rep.) Martin (Romualdez) at si (Marinduque Rep. Lord Alan Velasco),” Albay Rep. Joey Salceda told reporters on Monday ahead of the House Speaker election.
Earlier, President Rodrigo Duterte announced his endorsement of Cayetano as the next Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Duterte also suggested term-sharing between Cayetano, who would sit as House Speaker for 15 months, and Velasco, who will serve the remaining 21 months.
Meanwhile, Romualdez would sit as the Majority Leader as per Duterte’s suggestion. /muf
