Perth-born musician and self-styled “sonic scientist” Claudio has released the new single, ‘Losing You (One Day At a Time)’. The video features choreography performed by ballet dancer Rose Alice and images reimagined and re-cut by Martins Dabolins.
The ‘Losing You’ music video has received honours at various international film festivals. It was an official selection at the 2021 Vienna International Film Awards, the 2022 International New York Film Festival, and Venezia Shorts 2021. It was an award winner at the Rome International Movie Awards and the Berlin International Art Film Festival.
Claudio – ‘Losing You (One Day At a Time)’
In a statement, Claudio said ‘Losing You (One Day At a Time)’ was inspired by witnessing “self-sabotage in real-time and feeling powerless against the momentum of trauma patterning.” She elaborated, “I came to the difficult to swallow understanding some years back via a rapidly failing relationship that self-awareness is not always enough to outrun the deeper wiring of the subconscious.”
Throughout the music video, ballet dancer Rose Alice is submerged underwater. The clip was filmed in the freezing cold waters of London. The images captured by Manners and Coldham were sent to previous Claudio collaborator, Martins Dabolins, for post-production treatment.
“He is an audio-visual artist I met some years back while on tour in Latvia,” said Claudio. “I asked him to create a ‘surreal expansiveness’ from the images. I wanted to see with my eyes the feeling I’d illustrated in the throbbing sub tones that you can hear in the intro of the song.”
‘Losing You (One Day At a Time)’ is out now via Reformed Superhero Records. The track was engineered by Mark McEwan (Birds of Tokyo, Tkay Maizda, Karnivool) and mastered by John Greenham (Billie Eilish, Mura Masa).
