Duterte, Cabinet meet over frontliners’ appeal


PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte met with key Cabinet members this Sunday to discuss the appeal of the medical frontliners to return Metro Manila to enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) to enable them to rethink their strategies in the fight against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), his spokesman said..

“I will make the proper announcement in due course,” Secretary Harry Roque said..

Roque said on Saturday that “Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea convened a meeting tonight, August 1, with key members of the Cabinet…This is to address the concerns of the medical community.” The spokesman added that recommendations from the meeting would be submitted for the President’s review.

Before Saturday night’s meeting and after the frontliners’ press conference on the same day, Roque said “senior government officials met with the representatives of the Philippine Medical Association, the Philippine Nurses Association, and the Philippine Association of Medical Technologists to discuss the concerns of the medical community amid the challenges” presented by the virus.
