Everything You Need to Know About Bachelor in Paradise Season 4 Before the Premiere

Now that the dust has settled following the high-profile incident between two contestants during filming for Bachelor in Paradise‘s fourth season, it’s time to get excited for the premiere. It might feel like you’ve been waiting forever, but now season four is just a little over a week away. Here’s everything you should know before tuning in.

The Controversy

In June, a controversy involving contestants DeMario Jackson and Corinne Olympios nearly derailed season four of Bachelor in Paradise, as well as the reality show’s future in general. Warner Bros. conducted an investigation into a drunken sexual encounter gone wrong between DeMario and Corinne, putting season four filming on hold. After the investigation wrapped up, the studio reported it never found any proof of misconduct in the footage from that night, and production resumed. Neither DeMario nor Corinne will appear in season four, but both will join the rest of the cast during the reunion episode.

Whatever happened between the pair that night will also be directly addressed in the premiere, according to a recent press release from ABC. “One of the most shocking and dramatic seasons in Bachelor Nation history begins with host Chris Harrison explaining that production had to be suspended,” it said, further implying footage from before DeMario and Corinne’s hookup will be shown. “By episode’s end, will Paradise be closed for good, or will one of the best parts of summer be saved?” Apparently Harrison will sit the cast down “for a thought-provoking conversation about the encounter that caused all of the controversy.”

The Cast

The cast for season four includes fan favorites like Raven Gates, Amanda Stanton, and Dean Unglert.

The New Rules

Due to the controversy, TMZ reports that the show now has a two-drink-per-hour maximum, which will be implemented by both producers and the show’s bartender. The cast will also not be allowed to have sex without the express permission of a producer.

The Trailer

“The sun had almost set. Summer was almost ruined,” a voice-over announces in the season four trailer, referencing the controversy. “Paradise was almost lost . . . until it wasn’t.” Despite Warner Bros.’s investigation clearing all parties of wrongdoing, it’s still odd that the show decided to go with a trailer that focuses on tweets from viewers who were left “DEVASTATED” and “SOBBING” by the potential cancellation of the show, given the fact Corinne ended up “seeking therapy to begin dealing with the physical and emotional trauma stemming from that evening” and DeMario was fired from his job following the “false claims and malicious allegations.”

The Cast Photo

The new cast photo includes not only DeMario and Corinne but also Dean, who was only recently announced as joining Bachelor in Paradise following his exit from Rachel Lindsay’s season of The Bachelorette. Maybe the photo was taken after the group filmed the reunion episode?

The Wedding

On the second night of the show’s two-night premiere, audiences will get to watch the wedding of Bachelor in Paradise cast members Evan Bass and Carly Waddell.

The Premiere Date

Mark your calendars for Monday, Aug. 14, at 8 p.m. ET.
