Govt reviews eased restrictions amid Covid-19 surge

The Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) is reviewing its  decision to ease pandemic restrictions after the country recorded over 3,000 coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases in a single day.

National Task Force against Covid-19 Deputy Chief Implementer and testing czar Vivencio “Vince” Dizon made the admission during the roll out of AstraZeneca vaccines at QualiMed hospital in Laguna on Sunday.

“Nirereview po namin ngayon yung mga desisyon nung mga nakaraang linggo dahil mayroon pong malaking pagkakaiba nung ginawa yung mga desisyon na ‘yun na magluluwag tayo ng konti (We are reviewing the decisions made in the past weeks because the situation was different when we made decisions to ease restrictions),” he said.

“Ang kaso po natin nung nagawa yung mga desisyon na ‘yun ay 1,500 lang, ngayon po ay lampas 3,000 na so kailangan po flexible po tayo (cases when the decisions were made were 1,500, now the cases are over 3,000 so we have to be flexible), Dizon added.

Last February, the IATF-EID allowed the reopening of cinemas, game arcades and limited tourist attractions in areas under general community quarantine. It also allowed the increased capacity for religious services.

The health department on Saturday reported 3,439 Covid-19 cases, the highest since since October 12, 2020.
