“Mapanakit? December Avenue frontman speaks out: ‘Masaya kaming maraming nasasaktan’”

December Avenue’s Zel Bautista could only agree with what fans have to say about them.

Despite dominating chart after chart in various digital music streaming platforms, December Avenue remains grounded. In fact, the five-piece band keeps its focus on creating music rather than letting the truth that they are one of the biggest OPM bands today get into their heads.

Hindi namin iniisip na ganun. We’re just working hard, you know? Gusto lang namin tumugtog and gumawa ng maraming songs,” lead vocalist Zel Bautista said in an exclusive interview with PUSH during Ingram Micro Philippines’ 10th-anniversary celebration.

With several fans calling them ‘mapanakit‘ for their heart-wrenching songs, December Avenue frontman Zel Bautista could only agree with what they have to say about them – admitting he knows listeners could very much relate to the message of their music.

Totoo naman. Actually totoo naman. Masaya kasi maraming nasasaktan. Hindi kasi alam mo, Pinoys are known for becoming very emotional, alam mo ‘yun? Kaya nakakarelate sila,” he said.

December Avenue, who recently got an apology from Vice Ganda after the latter performed two of their songs during an out-of-town show with them next to perform, shed light on what really happened during the event.

Masaya naman. Wala naman actually nangyari. ‘Di niya lang alam na kasama niya kami. Kasi parang surprise guest ata siya dun. So ‘yun ‘di niya alam na kami next performer. Pero kinanta niya ‘yung “Sa Ngalan Ng Pag-Ibig” and “Kung ‘Di Rin Lang Ikaw” which of course, we really felt happy about it. Kasi ‘di ba? Si Vice ‘yun eh. It’s an honor. It’s a pleasure. Saka ang saya nung set niya,” Bautista said.

Bautista revealed that the band is set to release a full-length album this year which will include previously-released tracks such as their collaboration with Moira Dela Torre.

“Full-length album. The album will include the recent singles that we released so far. So we actually released six or seven songs na. And then may additional lang na konti to make it a full-length album (sic),” Bautista said.
