Robredo: Body cameras necessary during anti-drug ops

MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Leni Robredo, newly-designated co-chair of the Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs (ICAD), said using law enforcers should wear body cameras to “preserve the integrity” of anti-illegal drug operations.

“Wearing a body cam is indispensable for many reasons. First of all, it protects law enforcement agents,” Robredo, speaking partly in Filipino, said at a press conference on Saturday after the Indo-Pacific Federation Conference of the Theosophical Society in Quezon City.

The cameras could be used to defend law enforcers who might be facing “baseless charges,” she added.

“And it’s more of a protection for people as it will show the real events that happened during the operation,” Robredo said.
