The official posters for the three full-length films confirmed to compete in the third edition of Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino have been released.
An annual film festival hosted by the Film Development Council of the Philippines, PPP, through Facebook, shared the first look at the first batch of finalists, consisting of Rod Marmol’s Cuddle Weather, Jade Castro’s LSS, and Jun Robles Lana’s The Panti Sisters, on Wednesday afternoon.
A production of Project 8 corner San Joaquin Projects, Cuddle Weather tells the story of two sex workers, played by Sue Ramirez and RK Bagatsing, who form a screwy relationship as 'cuddle partners' after realizing that prostitutes are not entitled to the best part of lovemaking, only to realize that they want something more.
Meanwhile, in LSS, real-life couple Khalil Ramos and Gabbi Garcia take the roles of Sarah and Zak, an aspiring musician and a yearning son, who find themselves in a series of almost-but-not-quite romantic encounters as they follow an uprising indie-folk band, played by breakthrough band Ben&Ben for their first appearance in a film.
In The Panti Sisters, The IdeaFirst Company presents the story of three gay siblings who are called back by their estranged and terminally-ill father to give an offer they can’t refuse: a P300 million inheritance in exchange for each of them giving him a grandchild. It stars Paolo Ballesteros, Martin del Rosario, and Christian Bables.
FDCP named the said films as three of the eight finalists to join PPP at a press conference held last March 28. In the wake of the announcement, speculations floated that there have been a leakage of the finished films to have been chosen to complete the lineup curated by the festival’s Selection Committee and FDCP Chairperson and CEO Mary Liza Diño.
“Nagulat kami na mga list na umiikot, nakakalungkot lang di ba? We’re still the middle of shortlisting films, so meaning we’re still deciding on the final line-up,” said Liza in an interview with DZRH News.
“So, nandun kami. Kaya nga nakakalungkot na parang may mga finalist na lumalabas. Kasi, even when we were talking to the filmmakers and the producers, clear sa kanila na we’re in the process of shortlisting films. And we held them na parang I hope that you understand na meron tayong confidentiality agreement muna hangga’t hindi natin napa-finalize lahat kasi sa amin naman manggagaling yung final at malalaman at malalaman naman nila iyun. At ilang araw na lang naman,” she added.

Aside from Liza, acclaimed filmmaker Joey Reyes had similarly reported about the leakage earlier, stating in a Facebook status, “Now 2 of the finished films selected for Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino 2019 are in hot water for BREACH OF CONFIDENTIALITY.”
Liza said that they have yet to identify the person responsible for the disclosure of this confidential information.
Meanwhile, the other five entries to complete the PPP lineup this year is said to be announced on July 11.
Marking the celebration of Sandaan, or the 100 years of Philippine cinema, the 2019 PPP is slated to run from September 13 to 19 in all cinemas nationwide.
