MANILA, Philippines – The University of Santo (UST) Tomas Faculty of Engineering will conduct a probe regarding the alleged involvement of its students and a professor in a scandal that has gone viral on Twitter.
In a statement, the Faculty of Engineering said Monday that it does not tolerate inappropriate behavior such as those shown by its students and a professor in the viral tweet.
“We are saddened by the alleged involvement of our students and a faculty member in an online misbehavior,” the faculty said. “In response, we have immediately placed the students and faculty member under administrative investigation.
According to the faculty, due process would be followed but the values of the university would not be compromised.
“We commit to a fair and timely resolution of the issues, observing due process but without compromising and transformative nature of Thomasian Education,” it said.
The statement from UST was issued after a group chat circulated on Twitter where an anonymous netizen shared screenshots of a group chat containing private photos and videos of girls from different universities in Metro Manila.
The students involved were mentioned as UST students as their names were publicly posted in the screenshots. Meanwhile, another netizen positively identified the professor as a teacher in the faculty of engineering.
Portions of the chat involving the said individuals were shared in a Google drive that could still be accessed publicly at the time of writing this article. (Editor: Eden Estopace)
